Start ideating
So what could be done to reach the desidered improvement? Here's where ideation is essential and needed in order to define some potential actions that could contribute to bring innovation and change. Ideation is something that could be catalysed in specific moments, it benefits from the energy of a group and building one on each other's ideas. Ideation is a moment of free exploration, that could generate many different scenarios and directions, to be evaluated (and turned into action) in a second moment.
Tip: transform problems in opportunities
Once you have identified problem areas that pose challenges to the people you’re designing for, try reframing your insight statements as opportunities for design. We recommend to use the How Might We format because it suggests that a solution is possible and because it offers you the chance to answer the questions in a variety of ways. A properly framed How Might We doesn’t suggest a particular solution, but gives you the perfect frame for innovative thinking.
Tip: think laterally
One of the hardest part of ideation is to think outside the box: break the linear and usual ways of solving problems that may be part of the organization DNA and bring in some new flavours. There’re different ways and techniques to do that, from opening up the moment of ideation to members outside the organization, to finding inspirations in other fields and practices. You can learn more about lateral thinking here:
